The nation-wide Legend Writing Award was launched in 2001. It is organised by Hastings Writers’ Group, which, founded in 1947, is one of the longest-running writers’ groups in the country.
Legend is named after the first and favourite novel of our former patron, the late best-selling author David Gemmell. We are grateful to David for his help in setting up this writing award, which we are continuing to run in his memory.
The competition is for short stories up to 2000 words and particularly aims to encourage new writers in the UK. There is no set theme and stories may be any genre/subject, with the exception of children’s stories. Poetry is also excluded. Entrants are strongly advised to study the Rules and Conditions of Entry carefully before submitting entries.
